The University of South Alabama is a diverse and global community striving for inclusive excellence. The Cultural Awareness Collaborative at South, which includes students, faculty and staff created this calendar to build awareness and understanding of important observances and holidays of diverse campus groups.
Did You Know?
- USA offers a minor in African American Studies that provides an interdisciplinary investigation of the experiences, conditions, origins, accomplishments, and contributions of people of African ancestry in the United States.
- James E. Kennedy, Art department chair and professor emeritus of art and art history,
came to USA in 1968 as an
art instructor. He was instrumental in contributing to the “largest ethnic American art slide collection” and archiving the collection for academic use in the newly developed African-American studies program in the 1970s. The collection was “one of the first projects from this University of national significance.” - Dr. Kern Jackson, director of the African American Studies Program and Associate Professor, recently co-wrote and co-produced the award-winning Africatown documentary Descendant, now streaming on Netflix.
